'LOAN 'PROPOSALS REJECTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Voting took place in Petone > and Lower Hutt boroughs to-day on a proposal to raise £85,000 for a joint scheme of electric tramways for the Hutt Valley district. The proposal -was rejected by both, the voting being:—Petone: For, 359; against, 443; Lower JHutt: For, 378; against, 443. The aggregate voting was 737 for and 886 against. TIMARU JOTTINGS. Timaru, Last Night. The Levels County Council to-day requested the chairman to see the manager of the Bank of New Zealand to ask for a reduction of the interest rate on the overdraft. 5'/ 2 per cent, being thought too much when others get advances for less. The case against the Timaru Herald Company for under-paying an employee on a permit that had expired, and against the employee for accepting lower pay, was dismissed, the Magistrate holding the Union was at fault. It is proposed to build a new picture theatre here, when there will be two permanent picture shows.
