HILLSBOROUGH SCHOOL INCIDENT.
To the Editor. Sir,—l write as an outsider to express an ophtion to the effect that the report of the sub-committee appointed by the Education Board to enquire into the above, seems to me most unwarranted in their finding that the teacher is deserving of very grave censure. The verdict seems one that has been carefully drawn with a view to please the School Committee, the parent, the child and the teacher, but unfortunately the last-named is the on» who suffers the injustice. Far better to state at once that the charge is frivolous in the extreme, and recommend parents to be more loval to their interests in upholding their own district school, and throw whatever energy is possible in the direction of assisting the teacher in every sense. If the teacher lacked knowledge, and also lacked interest in her endeavour by the several means (shame and the strap) to br'-iir the back war.', i-hil-', forward in its studies, then the C'nr.imittee and the i'.oard muht Inve -M,:eth:ng to complain about : but from the facts that one can gather in the present case it seems to me to be one where the teacher should rather be applauded for her action, than the reverse. I hope to see that the Teacher-' Institute will take the matter up. and not allow such a fmdinu to go unchallenged.—Yours. etc., .IUmOF..
