ATHLETICS.

TAKANAKI ATHLETIC AND CALEDONIAN ASSOCIATION. The sixth annual report to be presented at the annual meeting at Stratford on the 11th inst"., reads as follows: "Your executive has to congratulate the centre on the success of the past season, the total number of affiliated societies being 22, while 14 additional societies ran under permits. This constitutes a record for Taranaki Centre. [Reference to the balance-sheet shows; the financial position to be- very sound, the centre being able during the year to compensate the secretary in a measure somewhat commensurate with the work entailed, while also paying the necessary expenses of a delegate attending the last conference of N.Z. Athletic Union at Greymouth. In spite of the increased expenditure, some of which is non-re-currirfg, the centre lias still a substantial balance in hand. At the last annual conference our delegate, Mr., A. Hansen, was elected to the executive of the N.Z. Athletic Union, and we take the opportunity of congratulating him. During the year the union took over the control of cycling. This marks a step in the history of the union, and in this centre at least we do not think any society will dispute the wisdom of the step. The annual meeting will be held in Stratford on Friday, November 11, 1910, when it is hoped that every affiliated society will do their utmost to be represented."

The balance-sheet shows receipts amounting to £7G 9s 3d, which was £2O 0s Id in excess of expenditure. The liabilities are set down at £9 Bs, and assets (overdue affiliation fees) £ll 0s Cd.
