Fremantle, October 29. * A fire aboard the steamer Koombana was subdued after a considerable quan-; tityt of cargo, mostly wool, had been damaged by fire and water. The, steamer was undamaged. THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON. Melbourne, October 29. The warships are engaged in their annual battle practice, and during the week good shooting was recorded. The squadron will remain at Melbourne till November 10. when the Powerful, Encounter and Cambrian will proceed to New Zealand. FRUIT GROWERS' HOURS. Hobart, October 29. The Fruit Growers' Conference carried, a resolution against any attempt to fix; wages or hours of labor in rural industries.
