CRICKET
THE SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM. Received 28, 9.40 p.m. Adelaide, October 28. Besides the players cabled, the South African team include Hathorn, described as a fine bat. The visitors are hard at r work practising. The captain is confident regarding the team's batting powers, but the bowling will be something of an experiment until it is found out what they are able to do on Australian wickets. It is a mistake, he says, to think all are "googlie" bowlers. THE SCHOOLS' COMPETITION. The schools' cricket competition, including teams of Boy Scouts, will com-! mence on Monday afternoon. Mr. E. Whittle has presented a valuable trophy j as a challenge competition, and it is hoped that by encouraging the boys it will be possible to have more and better | material to draw on for club cricket.
