Mr. C. E. Bellringcr having resigned from the New Plymouth Fire Board, Mr. Claude H. Weston has been appointed in his stead. An old resident of this district, in the person of Mr. J. D. Adlam, a brother of Mr. 0.. A. Adlam, of Oaknra, died in the Old People's Home yesterday. Mr. Dan O'Brien, late of New Plymouth, arrived in Wellington by the Warrimoo on Thursday, and proceeded to Christehurch. Mr. R. N. Adams has been appointed by the Presbyterian Home Mission Extension Committee to the district of Oka to, and will take up his duties shortly. An exchange reports the intended retirement early in the Year of Mr. T. Paton, stationmaster at Dannevirke. Mr. Paton has seen 32 years' service in the Railway Department. A pleasant function took place last night at the monthly congregational tea at the Whiteley Memorial Church, when a presentation of a silver tea and coffee service was made'to Mr. E. Nelson Okey on his retirement from the position of choir conductor. The Rev. J. ' G. Chapman made the presentation, and in a felicitous manner referred to the long and faithful service rendered by Mr. Okey to the church. He emphasised Mr. Okey's unique fidelity to his duties—whoever was absent, he was there. Mr. Chapman stated that though the presentation originated with . the choir, when the congregation got to hear of it they insisted upon joining in, - so that the presentation was a mark of esteem from the whole church. Mr. Chapman expressed his own admiration for Mr. Okey as a Christian and a man, : and wished him many happy years in ~] which he and his family might use the :'\ present.
