The annual report of the north-west pearl fisheries shows that the shell produced was valued at £173,031, and the pearls valued at £53.090. The work employs 344 boats and 2314 men. A Portheadland telegram reports a find of three fine pearls, one weighing 50 grains, and another valued at £7OOO.
