WANGANUI RIVER SERVICE TIMETABLE. The Wanganui River Service from Tauinarunui to Wanganui, will be as from November 1, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Steamers will also leave Wariganui for Pipiriki, and thence on to Taumarunui on same days. The downriver boat connects at Wanganui with the New Plymouth-Wellington express at noon at Aramoho Junction, and with the Wellington-Auckland Main Trunk express at Marton Junction by special train which leaves Wanganui at 1.43 p.m. daily for Marton Junction," and also with the Wellington-New Plymouth express, which leaves Wanganui at 2.20 p.m. Excursionists leaving Pipiriki in the morning can reach Wellington or New Plymouth the aamo day, or can connect with the Main Trunk at Marton Junction and be in Auckland next morning. : a- l«. • M
CHOCOLATE CAKE. ,*,<[ Cream together half a pound of 'butter and a quarter of a pound' of castor sugar; beat in, one by one, four eggs. Grate half a pound of good chocolate, put. it in a small pan with a tablespoonful of milk, and stir it over the fire till it has smoothly melted. Then add the chocolate and milk to the butter, sugar, ete Mix together three ounces of floury ounces of ground rice, and a small teaspoonful of baking powder. Add these to the other ingredients. Put the mixtut* irtto a shallow tin, lined with greased paper. Bake carefully and slowly for one hour. When cold pour chocolate icing over, and decorate with chopped ftlmonds or dessicated coeoanut. These decorations must be shaken over and slightly pressed on before the icing sugar is quite set. Now comes the question of what tea? With such a cake nothing less than the best tea will do and therefore we unhesitatingly recommend the Dragon Brand tea, at 2s 8d per lb.
