RAILWAY EMPLOYEES IN GAOL. By Telegraph.—Proes Association. Hawera, October 27. For some time there have been complaints of alleged pilfering at Hawera raihyay goods shed. In the Magistrate's Court to-day Norman Lawrence Wild, clerk, Leonard G-ilbert and Emile Fiauk Davev, porters, pleaded guilty to stealing from the goods shed two hams and a miscellaneous collection of drapery to the total value of £7.

Detective Siddells prosecuted, and pointed out the enormous losses occasioned as the result of thefts from stations. It appeared that accused were on the late shift, and left the shed about 10 o'clock, returning later on and opening travellers' samples and taking 'goods .therefrom, together with the hams. Counsel for accused applied for probation.

The Magistrate, Mr. Kenrick, was opposed to probation when offences of the nature before the Court were committed by persons holding positions of trust, and accused were sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment.
