Mr. Reid, a missionary from the New Hebrides, states that there is considerable friction between French and British settlers in the islands. The French dislike the missionaries for their work in evangelising the natives, and put obstacles in their way, and hJive denied them the privilege of holding services on French lands. Native labor is scarce, and Mr. Reid accuses the French of securing such laborers by giving them grog.
