O'Brien's book on "The Olive Branch in Ireland,' states that, Lord Wyndliam's Purchase Act was largely wrecked by many Irish Parliamentarians who were averse to peace and contentment which the Act brought to thousands of tenant purchasers. HOW TO CEMENT THE EMPIRE. THE HOME RULE QUESTION. Received 27, 1.5 a.m. London, October 26. Colonel Seely, speaking at Ilkeston, said tliat if the Unionists' object was to cement the Empire they had better drop tariff reform and support self-government for Ireland. He added that for eveiy , man in the great oversea dominions who cared deeply for tariff reform there was a thousand caring deeply for the cause of sell-government for Ireland.
