CONNECTIONS WITH SEWERS. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, before Mr. Fitzliorbert, S.M., tlie adjourned ease, Tippir.s (borough inspector) v. A. R. Peddie. was heard. The inspector applied for leave to withdraw the information and submit an amended one. under by-law 235 of the Borough By-law Amendments. 190.'). which reads as follows: Whenever there shall be a sewer within 100 ft. from any section on which any dwelling-house, factory, shop, r.fl'ice. or other building, aim in which building any persons dwell or are employed, or which building is constructed or being constructed or adapted for human habitation, or witW a view to persons being employed therein, in every ease it shall be lawful for the officer of the Council, by notice in writing, to require the owner of such building to provide and affix a water closet for the same, to be constructed in every respect in accordance with the by-laws relating to water closets; if the building is erected, 'the notice shall he complied with within one calendar month from service, but if in course of erection within such time as shall be stated in such notice. Defendant admitted that his section was within 100 ft. of the sewer, although his house was not, in respect of which he had been charged at first. His Worship fixed the fine at ss, and costs at 7s. CHIMNEY ON FIRE. A further case under the by-laws, ol allowing a chimney to catch fire, was preferred against E. A. McKoy, Courteliay street, for an offence committed on the 7th inst. A fine of 5s and costs (7s) was inflicted.
