Stratford, Last Night. The Railway Department intend metal- V ling the Flint road crossing to the full, width of the road, and it is probable''l that the Borough Council will do their' share and metal the road to its junc- ■' tion with the Mountain road. - Anglers state that the fishing is im- - proving, though no very good catches have been recorded yet. Mr. Fitzger- .i aid last week landed a three and a four- «' pounder. Mr. J. Fredric, of the firm of McMil- ,f lan and Fredric, met with a nasty ac- • cident this morning. H<? was walking along the rafters of the ceiling of a''" house which was in the course of erection, when he lost his footing and fell. " He sustained a nasty cut on the- jaw ' and received a severe shaking. A deserter from the Pioneer was ar- "3 rested in Stratford on Saturday, and ; appearing before the Court this morn- - ing was remanded to Wanganui. At first there was some doubt as to"j! whether it would be possible to get the - show grounds ready in time, but the' energy with which the work has been ' taken in hand appears to have done away with all doubt. Mr. King, the. contractor for the building, is satisfied, though he has been hampered by delay" in getting timber, that he will have his part ,of the work done. Mr. Sangster, who has charge of the ground, is making ' good progress, though the wet weatherof a few weeks past threw Jiim back.
