ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
THE HEATHCOTE FATALITY. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Inquiries into the circumstances of tlie death of Francis Emil Melson, whose body was found alongside the railway line near Heathcote yesterday, show that he was last seen dive by two men named William Whitford and Herbert Seed, who noticed him at about 9.45 p.m. on Saturday as he was walking towards the Lyttelton railway station, apparently with the intention of returning to Woolston by the 0.45 p.m. train. As far as is known no one noticed the man after that, but it is surmised that he was sitting on one of the carriage platforms and fell oil' shortly after the train left the Heathcote Station. An inquest was held this evening, and a verdict of accidental death through falling off a train was returned. A GIRL'S SAD END. Christchurch, Last Night. Enquiries are being made by detectives into the circumstances of the death of a young woman. It appears that she was prematurely delivered of a child, and subsequently the services of a medical man were obtained. He ordered her removal to the Christchurch Hospital, where she was admitted on October 15. Blood-poisoning supervened, and the woman died yesterday. A report will be made to the District Coroner, who will then decide whether an inquest is necessary.
FALL FROM A MOTOR CYCLE. Nelson, Last Ni'ght. Dr. Deck fell from his motor-cycle while crossing the Takaka hills to-day, and sustained a fractured leg. DEATH BY BURNING. j Wairoa, Monday. A native girl named Paeroa Whaanga, aged ten years, was fatally burned at Nuliaka on Saturday. BURNED IN HIS -WHARE. • Auckland, Monday. John Richards, a single man, was burned to death in a whare at Kakahi on Sunday morning. No relatives are known. The whole body was incinerated except a small portion of the trunk. A SHOOTING FATALITY. Greymouth, Monday. A shooting fatality occurred at Moonlight, near Blackball, yesterday, when two lads were out shooting. One named Noonan accidentally shot his companion, John Turner, aged 17, through the head. Death was instantaneous.
