THE CRIPPEN CASE
FROM DALY TO DAY. Jan. 31—Mrs. Cora Crippen, Crippen's second wife, .last seen alive at 39, Hilidrop crescent, Hollo way. Feb.—Crippen stated to her friends that she had been suddenly called to America. Miss Le Xeve went to live at Hilidrop crescent, and was seen in public wearing one of Mrs. Crippen's jewels. March 26.—Notice of Mrs. Crippen's death in California inserted in the Era. Crippen's statement that she died at Los Angeles proved false. 31.—Scotland Yard first informed, but no steps taken. April-May.—Enquiries by Mrs. Crippen's friends in America and London strengthen suspicions. Crippen and •Miss Le Neve take a "honeymoon" trip. June 30.—Scotland Yard again informed. July 8. —Inspector Dew examines Crippen and Miss Le Xeve. !)•—Flight of the couple. 10-18.—"Mr. and Master Robinson" at the Hotel des Ardennes, Brussels. 13.—Remains of a woman found in the cellar at Hilidrop crescent. July 10.—Government offers reward of • £250. July 20.—Suspected man seen in south of France; pursued, and flees across Spanish frontier; the "Robinsons" embark at Antwerp in the Montrose. 22.—captain Kendall's wireless • to his owners announcing his suspicions: several innocent persons followed and detained in Great Britain. July 28.—Rumor that Crippen and Le Xeve are in Canada; detectives despatched. Search proceeding in Andorra. Suspects disguised as old woman and young man seen at Dieppe. Inspector Dew sails in the Laurentic. July 24—The steamer Montrose reports by wireless telegraphy that Crippen and Le Xeve are crossing the Atlantic disguised as the Rev. Mr. Robinson and son. 7 July 29—Inspector Dew at Father Point. July 31.—Crippen and Miss Le Xeve arrested off Father Point. Aug. I.—Remanded at Quebec for fifteen days. Aug. 27.—Crippen and Miss Le Xeve brought back to London. Oct. 22.—Crippen convicted and sentenced to death.
