STRIKE OF RAILWAYMEN. New York, October 21. Two thousand five hundred union shop railwaymen are on strike. A STANDARD WAGE. AND PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS. Melbourne, October 22. A deputation asked the Minister of Home Affairs to adopt a uniform rate of wages on the Federal works, and to grant preference to unionists. Mr. O'Malley admitted that the Government should set the standard, and' promised consideration of the proposal. AFTER THE STRIKE. EFFECTS KEENLY FELT. Sydney, October 22.
