In Wellington papers the engagement is announced of Miss Alys Kiddiford (second daughter of the late Mr. Fred Riddiford, of llawera), to Mr. H. F. Arkwright (Marton).. A Press Association message states Mr. G. J. Marriott,, the present manager of the Waimate gasworks (South Canterbury) has been appointed manager of the Eltham gasworks.. PERSONAL Captain .Seott and his wife and Dr. Simpson and party are passengers for New Zealand by the Warrimoo, whieh sailed from Sydney on Saturday afternoon.
The death is announced by the.Patea Press of a popular young, resident of the town in the person of Mr. Fred Neilsou at the age of 31 years. Th* deceased was a leading member of the Fire Brigade. Mr. C. J. W. Griffiths, of Blenheim, Grand Master of the New Zealand Constitution of Free Masons, who has been on a few days' visit to Taranaki in his official capacity, returned to Wellington by the mail train this morning. Whilst in New Plymouth he stayed with his son, Mr. E. Griffiths. Mr. Laurie McKenna, who is to be transferred from the Waverley branch of the Bank of New South Wales to the head office in Wellington, was tendered a farewell social and made the recipient of a presentation clock. Mr. J. Maliony, of Patea, is to succeed Mr. McKenna at Waverley. The Rev. John Ferguson arrived ill Wellington from Sydney by by Moana on Wednesday. He is the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Australia. For over twelve years he was in charge of the First Church, lnvercargill, and his object in revisiting New Zealand is to take part in the jubilee celebrations or his old church, and also the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new place of worship for his former congregation.
