At No. 1 I the Birthday well) Uie 8-inch casing had been repaired and replaced to a depth of 1850 feet, and the sand-pump was at work cleaning out the debris from the remaining 050 feet of the bore. Excellent work was being done. At No. 3, matters are huug up, pending the arrival of the 4-inch casing. Jt is hoped to have the No. 5 derrick ready lor commencing work by the end of next week. Visitors to the bores were numerous yesterday. A total of 1340 preference shares in the Taranaki Petroleum Company were applied for yesterday. Applications are still freely arriving.,
