THE BAPTIST CHURCH.
I I ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. The anniversary of the Baptist Church was celebrated by a social last evening. , which was well attended by the members of the congregation and also by many from other churches in town. This showed a very brotherly spirit and at so 'bright ancl helpful a gathering all must have been pleased. The programme was varied and lengthy and well carried out. Vocal and instrumental music—solos, trios, quartettes; then there were several recitations, also well selected and well given. There were also several short addresses, only not exactly tea-meeting speeches, but ten-minute addresses on definite topics of interest to all; at least, to all church-going people. This church, judged from the review of the year'b doings by Mr. Coad, is a live missionary church. Few churches in the Dominion can show a better record in the way of contributions to home and foreign missionary work, the British and Foreign Bible Society and to backblock and Sunday School work. The address of the
evening was undoubtedly that given by Rev .H. Sharpe. of Fitzroy, on" "Steadfastness." It was solid matter, well put, and well listened to. The musical items were given by Miss Dowling, Miss A. 11. Smith. L.A.8., A.T.C.L., and her sisters. Miss Cartliew, Miss Rea, Mrs. Avery. Mrs! Cutler, .Mr. A. H. Ambury, Mr. F. Cole- [ man and ilr. Richardson. The recitaj tions by Mrs. IT. Lewis, Mr. Milton Seott and Master Fred Coleman were very | pood. the last-mentioned giving special pleasure to his friends. The ladies had | provided dainty and ample refreshments [ and the young people were active waiters.» In short, there was nothing wanting to make up a pleasant evening. The collection. even, was not omitted. The meeting opened with the hymn: "We've a story to tell to the nations," and closed with the Doxology and benediction. A hearty \ote of thanks was tendered to all the friends who helped to make a 'happy eveninrr.
