DISTRICT NEWS.
WAIONGONA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. Drozdowski's house, which was burned down on Monday, caught fire in a peculiar manner. A pan of fat was standing on the stove, and a sudden gust of wind down the chimney blew the flames out of the front of the stove, igniting the fat. The walls 01 the room caught fire immediately, and as Mrs. Drozdowski and her daughtei were alone in the house, nothing could be done to extinguish the flames. The house was insured for about £250, and the furniture was also covered, but in another company. Our creamery is to open in a few days, and it is proposed to hold a picnic to celebrate the occasion. This will take place in Mr. Hine's paddock, and the school children will be granted a halfholiday. The milking season is now in full swing, and the settlers like to be at home of an evening. Debating and euchre parties have closed, and on Friday will be held the last dance of the season.
