In the Assembly the Premier, dealing with the question of immigration during' the lifetime of the present generation or its successor, said that Australia would have to struggle for her position in the Pacific, for the mastery of wliicli a great national conflict would take place. When the time arrived, Queensland, with only half a million population, would be nowhere. If by spending £35,000,000 in the next twenty years she could add 5,000,000 to the population the money would be well spent.
