STRATFORD DAY BY DAY
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. The monthly meeting of the Stratford School Committee was held last night, when business of a routine nature was transacted. In the course of his report the headmaster made reference to the. effect that whooping cough and influenza had had on the school attendance. The number on the roll was 547, and the average for the past two weeks was 3G9. The Stratford Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting last night. The District Traffic Manager, Mr. J. E. Armstrong, wrote regretting that the volume of business did not warrant the appointment of a caretaker at the Douglas station. The Opunake railway was discussed, and the president reported that,as a result of an interview with the Minister for Public Works he had been informed that nothing would be done in this matter for some time to come. Several other matters were discussed in committee. Mr. W. Butcher has severed his connection with Messrs. Dimock and Co. to join Messrs. Thomas Botthwiek and Sons, Ltd. The Stratford Dairy Company are paying out £3OOO for September milk. The visit of the Grand Master to the Stratford Masonic Lodge to-night will attract a large number of Masons from up and down the coast.
