GENERAL TELEGRAMS.
.«. PROGRESS OF LEVIN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Levin, Last Night. i Borough leases aggregating frontages of 425 feet, situated in Main street and two adjoining thoroughfares, were ottered at public auction this afternoon. The conditions were twenty-one yearslease, with option of renewal. Competition was very keen, and the upsets were exceeded in almost every instance. As a result the borough benefited by a sum of £GSG per annum plus rates. WESTPORT-STOCKTON .MINE. Westport, Last Night. The directors of the Westport-Stock-ton Company have just completed several days' inspection of the company's Ngakawau property, paying special attention to (lie new works which connect the original mine with what is 'known as the "D' J seam. The connecting works are now completed, and a considerable number of miners are already operating on the bed of coal, the quality of which, the directors state, is quite up to expectations, and should materially assist the company in maintaining a large output. Much credit is given to Mr. Chamberlain, manager-engineer, and his staff on the energy and skill displayed in getting the work done so expeditiously.
ANGLICAN MISSION. Christchurch, Last Night. The general mission in connection with the .Anglican Church was inaugurated tonight, with a service in the Cathedral and the l'hillipstown church. The choirs and clergy from practically all the Anglican churches in the city and suburbs were present. Accompanied by Bishop Julius, Dean Harper and other church dignitaries, the missioners marched in solemn procession along the Cathedral aisles and through some of the principal streets. In Victoria Square the Bishop briefly addressed the dense throng exhorting them to attend the service. The Cathedral was crowded and the congregation wa» deeply interested in the service and sermon by Canon Stuart. INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION. Christchurch, Last Night. Several business men whose attention was called to the fact that to date no oll'icial record of the New Zealand International Exhibition had been published, expressed considerable astonishment at the delay which has occurred in issuing a compact and complete oll'icial record of the Exhibition. When it is stated that the official record of the South Seas Exhibition, held in Dunedin in 188!)90 was published by the Government in 1891. it will be seen that though the Christchurch exhibition was on a much larger scale, there is apparently no excuse for the delay that has taken place. Furthermore it is understood that practically all the data for the official record of the Christchurch Exhibition was prepared some time ago.
