DISASTROUS STORM
(GREAT DAMAGE IN CUBA. ByCable,—Press Association.—Copyright. Havana, October 18. The cyclone which swept over the island was most disastrous. Thousands were rendered homeless and destitute. International help may be required. The tidal wave which partially submerged the city did damage amounting tie a, million dollars. EXAGGERATED REPORTS. ' : Received -19, 11.20 pjn.' Havana, October 19. The damage by the storm wa* .exaggerated. Two deaths only were caused. 100 LIVES LOST. INHABITANTS PANIC-STRICKEN. New York, October 18. One hundred lives were lost and hundreds injured by the hurricane in the West Indies, and the damage will amount to millions of pounds. The inhabitants of Havana are panic-stricken. FLOODS IN FLORIDA. New York, October 18. Simultaneously with the floods in Havana, the town of St. Augustine, Florida, was inundated.
DAMAGE TO SHIPPING. NUMEROUS SEIZMIC SHOCKS. Received 19, 1-1.20 p.m. New York, October 19. During the storm at Key West several vessels parted their moorings and many houses were unroofed. The wind velocity was ninety miles. Three deaths are reported. Numerous seizmic shocks were registered at Santa Clara Observatory, in California. It is announced that, connection exists between the shocks and the tidal wave in Cuba.
