THE TARANAKI COMPANY. The manager is making good progress with replacing the casing in No. 1 bore. It parted a while ago, and had to be taken out. The 8-inch casing has now been replaced to a depth of over. 1300 feet. There is still a constant stream of oil from No. 2 bore. At No. 5 l)ore all is in readiness for a start with the re-erection of the derrick to-day. The company's new preference shares are meeting with a fair demand. During the past few days several parcels of shares have changed hands locally at 9s fid to 9s 9d. A demand is setting in, and shares are not eas easily procurable as they were a week or two ago. The company has been in communication for some time with an English enquirer in reference to the purchase of the company's interests. Yesterday a cablegram was sent referring him to the Bank of New Zealand in London.
