TARANAKI LANS BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board wis held yesterday. Present: Messrs. F. Simpson (Commissioner of Crown Lands), Heslo}>, Ilattenbury, McCluggage and Kennedy. TRANSFERS. The following transfers were deak with at this meeting—A. W. Holland to Jas. Brown, section U blk 10, Ohura; recommended for approval, subject to residence. Wood. Low and Jenos to C. A. P. Wood, sec 8 blk 7. Cape.—Recommended for approval. H. Woisin to G. R. and E. A. Bonner, sec 30 blk 10, Egmont.—Recommended for approval. G. and W. Woods to G. W. ami IT. J. Woods, sec 26 blk 13, Aria.—Recommended for approval. Messrs. Govett and Quilliam applied for extension of time to register transfer of J. Hart, jun., to J. D. Campbell. I —One month's extension granted. SUB-LEASES. M. O'Neill to G. Lynn, part sec 4 blk 11, Ngatimaru.—Recommended for approval. C. A. E. Hodgldnson to J. B. Norris. sec 11 blk 11, Omona, and sec 7 blk 7, Omona.—Recommended for approval. W. R. and M. Bonner to P. and J. O'Connor, sec G blk IG, Ngatimaru.—Recommended for approval, provided all matters are in order. The Deputy Official Assignee to J. Stanger, jun., see 2 blk 5, Kapara —Resolved to inform the Assignee that the Board is not aware of any objection to him taking action to transfer the property in the usual manner. THE FREEHOLD.

Messrs. Weston and Weston applied, on behalf of €. A. P. Wood to convert the tenure of sec 8 blk 7, Cape, to freehold—Approved. ! ROAD DEVIATIONS. Plans of the following road deviations were submitted:—Waitewhenua road, Mahorahora road, with readjustment ol boundaries on closed road.—Resolved that the deviation of the Waitewhenua road be approved, and the titles be amended, provided the severed portion of sec 15 blk 2, Ohura, be added to sec 22, so as to bring it up to the road frontage. It was also resolved that the deviation of the Mahorahora road be approved, and the titles amended in the usual manner. SECTIONS FORFEITED. The ranger (Mr. Twiss) reported having resumed possession of the following forfeited sections:—Sec 9 blk 12, Mimi; sec 11 blk 13, Mimi; sec 9 blk 1 Pouatu; sec II blk 12, Waitara.—Resolved, that the lands be re-opened under the op- j tional conditions in terms of the ranger's report. Mr. E. Meredith, assistant ranger, reported on section 1 blk 12, Mapara, which had been surrendered. —Resolved that the section be not realloted at present. | He also reported on the forfeited sections in Mapara, and submitted sugges-! tions for dealing with them.—lt was re-' solved that the sections be withdrawn from the improved farm settlers system and be offered as separate holdings as recommended. i A. A, Matthews applied for an extension of time to reside on section 2(5 blk 11, Mapara.—Resolved that the request be not granted, and that the section be forfeited. i DOUGLAS ROAD.

Mr. Twiss also reported on the pro-' posal of the Stratford County Council to expend thirds from sees 1 and 7 blk 8, Huiroa, on the Douglas road, north of Huiroa.—Resolved that the money be expended in giving access to the sections from the Douglas road. RESIDKCCE. The ranger's report on the non-resi-dence of F. E. Dobson on see 14 blk 5, and 37, 39, 44, 45, blk 6, Ngatimaru, was read. —Resolved that the Board is satisfied that the conditions have been fulfilled. ACCRUED THIRDS. The Whaiigamomona County Council applied to vary the proposal to expend third on Rae Kohua road, so that the money will be spent on new formation in front of sec 2 blk 7, Pouatu, instead! of maintenance.—Agreed to. I The Olmra County Council submitted j proposals for the expenditure of £IS4 18s lid, thirds accrued to Waitewhenua road. —Approved. NON-COMPLIANCE. Persons to whom sections under Improved Farm System had been allotted during the last two or three months, but who had not fulfilled the conditions were dealt with:—J. Sutherland, sec 18 blk 11, Mapara; W. Smith, sec 23 blk 1, Tangitu; forfeited, but granted a month to appeal if not on the land; J. Hayes, sec C blk 1, Tangitu; J. Rose, sec 29 blk I, Tangitu; T. McGill, sec 25 blk 11, Mapara; James, Hayes, sec 4 blk 1, Tangitu.—Forfeited. | The following list of, selectors, who ( had not complied with the conditions,! was dealt with:—W. Laws, sec 7 blk! 11, Aria, (deficient improvements), six months' extension; F. E. Thompson, seel 2 blk 11, Heao (deficient improvements), six months' extension; G. R. McLaughlin, sec S blk 3, Ohura (deficient improvements), six months' extension; E. S. Von Sturmer, sec 5 blk 3, Waro (non-residence), action suspended. RANGERS' INSPECTIONS.

Mr. E. Tolme (ranger) reported on m-j spection of l(i holdings, comprising' 5!).1)97 acres; improvements required, £j.)o<>; eirected, £7002; five liad not elTected sufficient improvements. Mr. Twiss reported on the inspection] of 78 holdings, comprising 2(i,i>3G acres;| improvements required, £20,451; effect-! Ed, £39,401. Two selectors had not complied with residential conditions, four had not effected sufficient improvements,! and one had not complied with either condition. Resolved that the usual notice ho sent to those who had not complied. MISCELLANEOUS. The Under-Secretary for Lands wrote statins; that Cabinet had decided that the bridge over the Ongarue river at TiUimaranui be erected by the Public Works Department, if the Land Department gives the thirds.—Resolved that

the sum of £4OO be allocated for the work. Mr. H. T. Joll waited on the Board, and stated that lie had not been able up to the present to sow all the grass seed on his sections, 15 blk 8 and 31 blk 9, Mimi. J. F. Smith applied for extension of time to allow him to take up his resi-' dence on sec 3 blk 7, Tanjitu. Six' months' extension granted, such exten- : sion to be final. A, report was received on the applica-' tion of R. G. Brooks to obtain a lease of sec 29 blk 15, Aria.—The application was refused. •; Mr. Cecil Wright, as solicitor for E. : Hyde, formerly lessee of sec 2 blk l,j Piopiotea, applied for payment of theamount of valuation for improvements due to liim—Referred to the Commis-J sioner. : The Resident Road Engineer of the: Public Works Department (Stratford) wrote that he had no objection to the sale of sees 43 and 445 Village of Huia-' kama, and it was therefore resolved that the sale be proceeded with in terms ofi the previous resolution.

The Assistant Land Registrar asked for a new lease to be issued to Andrew Waters, of sec 9 blk 11, Heao.—Approved, on payment of the usual fee. H. and G. Blank applied for about 400 acres adjoining their leasehold, sec 9 blk 11, Aria.—Resolved that the ranger's report be obtained. J. B. Ludwig applied on behalf of the Tatu Settlers' Association for a piece, of- the township reserve, blk 9, Ohura, near the junction of Harvey and Paoroe roads.—Rangers report to be obtained. W. P. Barclay applied to purchase sec *9, Tikorangi township.—Resolved that the matter be dealt with when the township is surveyed. H. Jury applied for a lease of part of »cc 5 blk 13, Waro, west of Kiwi road, as an addition to his holding.—Left in the hands of the Commissioner to arrange as to the necessary survey to be undertaken at the expense of the applicant.

C. E. Raby applied for a portion 01 see 5 blk 13, Waro, to be added to education reserve 4, adjoining, as a homestead site. —Left in the hands of the Commissioner. A. M. Riddell applied for payment of value of improvements on sec 9 blk 2, Ohura, effected by him prior to surrender in exchange for his present holding.! —Dealt with in committee. j A. F. Gulson applied for the year exemption from residence on sec 7 bik (i, Aria.—Resolved that the selector must reside or transfer within three months to someone who will do so. Mr. Meredith reported that D. J. T. Creech had made no improvements on pee 11 blk 11, Mapara.—Forfeiture confirmed.
