Cardinal Moran, addressing his congregation, said that the Portuguese Government was in the hands of sectaries and Freemasons, who left nothing undone to stir up irreligion in the country, and to thwart the religious tendencies of the faithful.
CARDINAL DECLARES FOR THE REPUBLIC. ADMIRAL REIS' DEATH. Received 19, 0.45 a.m. Lisbon, October 18. The Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon has signified his adhesion to the Republic. Five suspects have been arrested on a charge of murdering. Admiral Reis, who it was reported had committed suicide.
