WAITARA NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the Harbor Board took place on Friday evening, there being present: Messrs. Stubbs (chairman), Jenkins, Chappell and Spurdle. A letter was received from the manager of the X.Z. Shipping Company to the effect that the matter of erection of a wood store would be placed before a meeting of directors. It was resolved that Messrs. Wood Bros, be offered the use of half the present shed at a rental of £IS per annum. Messrs Burgess and Rraser wrote asking the Board to reconsider the matter of the offer made to grant them a renewal of the smaller building, and asking that they be granted the lease of one of the larger buildings. It was unanimously resolved that the Board could not see their way clear to alter their decision. Mr. G. Pearce asked for permission to transfer the lease of part sec. 17 blk 00 to Thos. Buchanan.—Application granted. G. Pearce notified the Board that he intended to fence the section recently taken up by him from the Board, and asking that the Board do their portion. —The matter was left in the chairman's hands. Mr. Stubbs applied and was granted permission to leave his launch on the i vacant piece of ground at the back of the kerosene store. The Secretary for Marine applied for a return of the value of the Board's endowments. The secretary stated the information had been supplied. The Prime Minister replied to the •chairman's letter that the matter of a grant to the bridge would be considered when the estimates were being made out. Messrs. Hatrick and Co. asked for consideration when hardwoods were required by the Board. Accounts amounting to £lOl lis were passed for payment. It was decided to call for tenders for the supply of ironwork for the proposed new wharf, and also for labor for erection, tenders to be in at next Board meeting. The chairman reported that the south wall was being undermined, and it was a question as to whether any good would be served by renewing it." Mr. Chappell said there were diverse opinions on the matter as to the utility of the wall. Mr. Spurdle said lie had also been given to understand that the south wall was useless. It was decided to make application to the Council to connect with the water supply. A meeting of the Brigade was held on Friday evening. Mr. F. J. Brabant tendered his resignation to the committee, and Mr. C. J. McLean was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr. E. J. Ford was appointed captain; Mr. Q. Bird lieutenant and Mr. A. Frost foreman. The contain was appointed treasurer, and tiie lieutenant lion. sec. pro torn. Messrs. ; Richards and Bowen were appointed an executive committee. Rules were submitted arid adopted.
