SLY-GROG SELLER FINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Stratford, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-dav, Mr. W. G. K. Kenrick imposed a fine of £2O, with witnesses' expenses £l. 14s, on Ellen Flynn, boardinghouse-keeper, of Te Weva. on a charge of selling liquor at Te Wera on August 2. Two months were allowed in which to pay the fine. .ALLEGED FORGERY. Dunedin, Last Night. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of William Miller, who carried on business here as a money-lender and who disappeared nire days ago, on a charge of forgery. The charge is that he altered a promissory note for £5 liOs to £25 10s, and discounted it. getting £25 for it. Miller is now supposed to be out of the country. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court asking that 'Miller be declared a bankrupt. It is understood that the total amount owing to his creditors is about £6OOO. RAISING THE PRICE OF SOAP. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand soap manufacturers decided to raise the prices of all bar soaps £2 per ton, owing to the high prices ruling for tallow, cocoanut and cottonseed oils, and American resins.
