THE KNYVETT CASE.
THE COMING APPEAL. Wellington, Wednesday. Mr. J. S. Dickson, chairman of the Knyvett Defence Committee, was h Wellington to-day, the purpose of a brief visit being to gain a thorough knowledge of the provision made in the Defence Bill for the appeal ex-Captain Knyvett intends to bring against his dismissal. Mr. Dickson states that the defence committee is in communication with Mr. Knyvett, who is at president resident in Christehurch, and it is intended to bring an appeal whenever the Bill shall become law, and the new commandant shall have arrived. In waiting for Colonel Godley's arrival, no disrespect is meant of the defence authorities, nor is there any suggestion that a fair trial would not be afforded is another officer convened tht Court. Speaking personally, Mr. Dickson expresses satisfaction with the provisions of the Bill. He thinks the committee deserves the thanks of the officers and men of the territorials for obtaining a provision which would probably not have been included but for the recent agitation. Mr. Dickson does not think it will be competent for the court-martial, before whom the appeal is brought, to hear charges against Colonel Robin, but he is of opinion that Mr. Knyvett will have the right of calling that officer as a witness if he so desires.
