PERSONAL.
Mr. G. Tisch, Mayor of New Plymouth, is indisposed. Mr. P. A. O'Leary, manager of the Melbourne Clothing Company, left yesterday morning for Wellington, where he joins the Warrimoo for Sydney, en route to the Solomon Islands, where ht has business interests. .He will be absent for about six weeks. A southern paper makes the following remarks concerning the Hon. James Carroll:—He is the despair of photographs, including one of the English. Church in Lisbon, where he was organist for many years, and where on one occasion he played in the presence of King Eclward VII. Canon Ivens will address a meeting for women at 4.45 this afternoon at St. Mary's Church. This evening he will preach a special service at 7.30. Canon Ivens, who has already conducted four missions, has still four others to take. He leaves for the south to-morrow to' undertake a mission in Christchurch. Dr. Neligan, who has resigned his office as Bishop of Auckland on account of ill-health, leaves by the Tongariro tomorrow afternoon for Wellington, ana will sail by that vessel from Wellington on the 20th inst. for London. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Neligan and family. The Anglican Synod meets on the 21st for the election of a new bishop. The many friends of Lieut-Colonel Creagh will regret .to hear, of his death at Krugersdorp, Transvaal, on August 3; at the age of G7. Colonel Creagh, on retiring after long and distinguished service in the "Black Watch" (late 42nd Highlanders), including active service in Ashantee, West Coast of Africa, came to New Zealand, but on the outbreak of the Boer war he enrolled and took over the Australian contingent of Scottish Horse. After, seeing the war to a close, he was engaged on administrative work in connection with the retirement of the British forces. Col. Creagh was the youngest son of the late LieutGeneral Creagh. He is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter, at present in Auckland.
