BOROUGH WORKS.
To the Editor. Sir,—Can you tell me why so many of the works done by the borough workmen (or some of them) are sc often done in such a half-finished and slovenly way? The latest instance it, nearly opposite the Courthouse, where a drain connection has been put in. Now it passes my comprehension to know why such work is nearly always left like this. Instead of being properly rammed down, the stones are simply thrown loosely back, with the inevitable result that they are being kicked all over the road by the passing horses; and on the footpath it has been left raised up for foot passengers to stumble over when passing there at night. It would have been quite easy to have made a neat finish of the work. Instead, it is left as a botch that no Borough Council should tolerate.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
