The Sugar Excise Bill was put through all stages. The Naval Defence Bill provides for permanent forces liable- to continuous service and employed in any naval service. The citizen forces are only liable to active service when called out by proclamation. They may be required to serve in any naval service within or beyond the Commonwealth. The naval force may be used for the protection of the State against domestic violence, and if acting with the King's forces will be subjected to any Imperial Act or regulations. LAND TAX BILL. Received 13, 1 a.m. Melbourne, October 13. In the House of Representatives tTie Land Tax Bill was read a third time. An attempt was made to re-commit so as to provide separate assessment for land sold before the end of the year. Mr. Deakin said the principles of equity would never creep into the Bill.
