Kini, from Greymouth, early. THE NEW* PAKEHA. The Pakeha, a new steamer of about 8000 tons gross register, built by Messrs Ilarland and Wolff, Ltd., to the order of Messrs Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., Ltd.. for the New Zealand trade, left Belfast during the last week in August and, after adjustment of compasses and trials, proceeded to the Tyne for dry-doeking and coaling. The length of the Pakeha is 483 ft -6in, breadth 62ft Bin, and depth 43ft 9in, and she is propelled by twin screws. Comfortable accommodation has been provided for passengers, and the vessel has also large carrying capacity. The principal apartments have been suitably decorated, the furniture being mainly of oak, upholstered in moquette.' The vessel has six holds, four of these, together with four lower 'tween decks, being insulated for the carrying of frozen mutton ,and the other two 'tween decks are for general cargo. The two forward 'tween decks have special provision made so that fruit can be carried in season. The old Pakeha, which this new vessel replaces, was just half the size of the new Pakeha.
