SALVAGING THE WAIKARE
ADVENTURES IN A KETCH. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Invereargill, Last Night. Mr. Crocket, of the syndicate that lias been salvaging the wreck of the Waikare in Dusky Sound, has just returned with a somewhat excitin® story, which he told to a Southland Times reporter. Members of the party, while making for Preservation Inlet in the ketch Anna ran on to some rocks and sprang a bad kale. T'liey attempted n. five-mile run before a wind, 'which died away, and then ran back with another breeze, successfully negotiated a short cut through a line of breakers into Luncheon Cove, and eventually beached the Anna in the creek whence the first vessel ever b"'lt in New Zealand was launched.
The party ran short of provisions more than once, and had to make a raid on the Waikare's store room, most of th-v? eontents of which were unfit for consumption.
From the wine room thev sot a considerable supply of wines, ales, liqueurs, etc. which have been 'brought to Bluff.
