RAILWAYMEX'S STRIKE. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Paris, October 9. Five hundred railwaymen in Northern France have struck, but passenger traffic is not affected. Paris, Later. The railway strike in Northern France is spreading. Soldiers are acting as drivers and stokers. THE MINIMUM WAGE. Received October 11, 1-2.30 a.m. Paris, October 10. The Northern France strike is due to the announcement that the minimum wage will be five francs a day. The malcontents are those who are paid 1 on a higher scale. A GERMAN STRIKE SETTLED. Berlin, October 9. A conference between employers and men of the private German shipbuilding yards agreed to end the strike. The men obtained material concession, but abandoned the demand for an all-r6und 53 hours' week. Wages were increased four or five per cent, instead of ten as demanded. AN EIGHT HOURS' DAY. London, October 9. The Scottish enginemen, who gave a fortnight's notice to secure an eight hours' day, have withheld the notice pending an interview with the owners.
