STRATFORD DAY BY DAY
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night.
A collision between a motor car driven by Dr. Paget and a buggy oo« curred last night. It appears that when near the Flint road Dr. Paget, who had. lights on his car, became aware of a vehicle on the wrong side of the road* He pulled his car off the road as far atf he could go. Apparently frightened by the car, the horses "played up," and, coming into contact with the wind screen, smashed it. Whether through the horses getting out of control or for any other reason, the driver drove away. The doctor, however, went in pursuit and, overtaking his quarry nea*| Midhirst, found out who he was. Dr» Paget had a narrow escape, for had the car gone a few feet more off the road it would have come in contact with a bank.
A bolt occurred yesterday, when a horse attached to a trap in which Mrs. J. Montgomerie and Miss Clover were seated ran down Broadway. The anmal was fortunately stopped before any damage was done. The Borough Council meet to-night. From all accounts it should be a long meeting, but whether the record put up at the last meeting will be eclipsed remains to be seen.
Up to the present local anglers do not appear to have been favored with large catches. Nor does this state of affaire appear restricted to the Stratford waters, as several fishermen have whipped the South Taranaki streams with no better success.
The building trade still continues very brisk, and contractors have their handsfull.
