THE NATIONAL FLOWER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Feilding, Yesterday. The Feilding Beautifying Society has initiated a proposal to choose the kowhai as the national flower of New Zealand, and on Monday next people in this district are asked to wear a kowhai buttonhole. Storekeepers are co-operating by a display in their windows. The schools and Boy Scouts are also joining in. BURGLARY AT HOKITTKA. Hokitika, Yesterday. The premises of Paterson, Michel and Co. were broken open last night. The back door was forced and the safe opened, the keys having been inadvertently left hanging in a macintosh. About £9 in notes and silver was taken, also a quantity of cigars, tobacco, etc. The back dooT of the premises of Messrs. Pollock and Bevans, next door, was broken open, but the intruders were apparently disturbed, and an entrance wat apparently not made. Footprints and the pick used in opening the door were found,
