"STOCKYARD" METHODS.

MR T. E. TAYLOR ON THE TARANAKI (MEMBERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the House of Representatives this evening, consideration of the Stone Quar- ' ries Bill was resumed in committee, and led to several passages at arms. At Clause 4 Mr. Pearce moved to report progress, and this Mr. Taylor opposed on account of the 'buffoonery indulged in toy Mr. Okey and Mi". Hine. Mr. Massey asiked for the ruling of the chairman if the word "buffoonery" was parliamentary. The chairman ruled in the affirmative. The matter was then referred to the Speaker, who upheld Mr. €olvin's ruling on the ground that the chairman was i e.?t able to judge whether the word was used in an offensive sense. On the committee resuming, Mr. Tavlor repeated the expression objected to, and on appeal to the chairman the latter maintained his former ruling. •Mi - . Taylor' then characterised the speeches of the Taranaki members as verging on indecent, and added that they were uncouth in their methods, which resembled; those of a stockyard. He said Mr. Okey showed an utter disregard for workers in stone quarries. M!r. Massey referred to Mr. Taylor's language as disgraceful, and Mr. Taylor protesting, the chairman said the word was not parliamentary. Mr. Massey withdrew the term. Mr. Massey objected to the tactics adopted bv the Government. Sir Joseph Ward said if Mr. Massey believed that he would allow a minority to dictate to the Government how it should conduct the business of the House he made a great mistake. He was prepared to ask the House to sit all night whenever it was necessary. The motion to report progress was lost on division by 45 to 10.
