TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, .September 27, I held my usual four-weekly sale of above produce. The catalogue comprised 20 bales and 97 sacks wool, 23 casks and 84 tons tallow, 1441 'hides, 3400 sheepskins, 7046 calfskins, besides the usual assortment of cowtails, horsehair, etc. There was a large attendance of 'buyers and competition was keen. My offering of wool consisted principally of crutchings, which sold well at late rates, fleece and dead being %d to %d higher. Sheepskins met with excellent competition; dry sold well at prices equal to those ruling at my last sale, while damp and salted showed a substantial all-round advance. Ox hides, for the class offered, sold on a par with late rates, no first-class stout bein," offered. Cow hides, well-flayed and goodconditioned, advanced y 2 d to %d, and sold as high as 7y 2 d per lb. Average butcher hides were y 8 d higher. There was a large catalogue of calfskins and the prices realised were about the same as last sale's, with the exception of a few special lines, which sold as high as 1i1,%d, being a record for the season. Tallow advanced 30s to 3os per ton. i quote:— Wool —Best crutchings 5%d to Gd, medium 0141 to 01/>d,o 1 />d, inferior 4%d to sd, fleece 6%d to 7%d, lambs 7d, first d«.ad 7V4<l to 7y 2 d, second dead '6% d, locks 2d to 3y 2 d, black GVid, scoured pieces BV^d, skin pieces 2%d to 4d.
