Laborers engaged on the permanent way for the trams struck for a shilling increase. Plenty of cheaper labor is available. A THEATRICAL UNION. Melbourne, October 4. A theatrical choristers and ballet ladies' association has been registered. TEACHING AGRICULTURE. Sydney, October 4. Instructional courses for public school •teachers will be held at Hawkesbury Agricultural College during the Christmas vacation.
A STEAMER OVERDUE. Sydney, October 4. The steamer Annaberg is three days overdue, from Algoa Bay. A SAD OCCURRENCE. Sydney, October 4. Mrs. McDonald "died of pneumonia] while the funeral was proceeding of her husband, who died of the same complaint p. week ago. Both were hale, and in the prime of life.
TARIFF ANOMALIES. Melbourne, October 4. A deputation from the Kauri Timber Company to the Minister of Customs, asked that the duties on kauri and white pine be regarded as anomalies, and stated that increases were unwarranted. Mr. Tudor promised that consideration of any tariff alterations this session would deal only with anomalies.
