DEPUTATION TO THE PEEMIER. By Telegraph.—Prese Association. Wellington, Last Night. The prospects of 'Makuri Gorge as a medium for generating electrical energy were 'brought under the notice of Sir Joseph Ward this morning by a deputation from PahiatuQ introduced by Mr. Ross, M.P. Mr. P. S. Hay, late superintendent engineer to 'the Public Works Department, reported favorably on the prospeets of a scheme in 1804, tind suggested the possibility of.'s6rmjig enougih power to electrically light/PrfEiatua, Woodville, Palmers ton and' 'Masterton. The proposal had been .favorably reported on by an English eipert, -with the result that proposals were (made for blie establishment of a company with a capital of £200,000. The deputation now asked that ae the locality had supplied reports ajid the late Mr. Seddon had promised to promote a Bill to carry out the work and that Makuri should be one of the fl«st to be developed, the Government should give the local bodies an opportunity to do the work. lhe Prime Minister said the matter was one of general policy .
