WOMAN'S WORLD.

(Conducted by "Eileen'). A NORMANBY LETTER The Normanby Horticultural Society held a very successful concert on Wednesday evening last, before an appreciative audience. Mr. F. MeGuire, patron of the Society, addressed the gathering ibefore the commencement of the concert, and gave a short resume of bhe history of the Society, wlidch has now been existent for twenty-eight years. In concluding his remarks, Mr. McGuire said he trusted tile rising generation would take the same interest in horticultural matters as tlheir predecessors had done. The programme opened with a pianoforte solo, following which Misses Baker, Ecclesfield! and May contributed items, which were duly appreciated. Mrs. Beasley, of Hawera, who is an old favorite with Norowanhy audiences, contributed "Malabar" and "The Sleeping Camp" in a manner that earned an imperative recall in each appearance. Mr. Beasley also rendered two items in pleasing style. Mr: Trebelco (of New Plymouth) male 'his first appearance as a vocalist Iwre. He has a ikritone voice of very piecing ■quality, and scored an immediate success with his rendering of "There's a Land," for which 'he was recalled. His other items were also most successful, and concert-goers will look forward to Ms re-appearance here. Mr. Farmer (of Waltara), whose reputation as a humorist liad preceded him, also made a first appearance, and scored an instantaneous "hit." He held the stage for forty minutes, and with song and monologue was kept busy answering tflfie demands of the audience. His female character song, "Mrs. Kelly" and "Man" appealed particularly to the ladies present, and was productive of much laughter. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr. J. Were, president of the Society, thanked all those who had contributed to 'the programme. Miss Jassie Connell acted as accompanist in a very efficient manner, and Normanby should ibe gratified that such a talented young lady is residing amongst i them. The dance which followed was well attended. The music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. Beasley. of Hawera, Mr. Eopcroft acting as MjC. I must not forget to mention the supper, which was supplied Iby the ladies of the district. This was most dainty, and was greatly appreciated Iby those present. The gathering broke up„at an early hour in the morning, all agreeing that a most pleasant evening had been spent. We are all looking forward to .the next concert.
