■* V TARIKI. > (From Our Own Correspondent.) The seventeenth anniversary services of the Tariki Methodist Church were conducted by the Rev. Wills. On Tues- ' day evening the annual social connected with the above was held, the Revs. W. S. Bowie presiding. A good, musical programme was gone through, consisting ol solos and duets, together with the several anithemß rendered by the choir under the conductorship of the choirmaster (Mr. W. H. Rud'kin). Mr. and Mrs. Perrott (Midlhirsb Choir) and Miss Bennett (Ingleiwood) gave valuable assistance during the evening. The secretary' and treasurer (Mr. A. Coutte); read the annual report, which showed a satisfactory state of affairs, the income balancing the expenditure with the exception o| a few shillings. The report . stated that the church was badly in need of a coat of paint, and it wa» hoped that the forthcoming aale of work, fo be held under the auspices ol . the Ladies' Sewing Guild, would be very successful. T(he Rev. Mr. Bowie, in - speaking, said) 1 he hoped to see an improvement during the year in the attendance. He sincerely hoped the painting of the church would be accomplished during the summer. He stated that he had also 'had another object in view for some time, that a chimney would be installed in the vestry ere another winter. After a brief address by Mr. John Jamieson, he moved a ihea-rty vote of thanks to all who had assisted in making the social the success it Jjad been. Two weddings wire solemnised in the morning, and the R&v. A. Wilkinson baptised thirteen chaldron in the afternoon. The Church/ of England, which was prettily decorated, crowded on the occasion of Miss Stratford's marriage with Mr. Stephen Speedy, of Palmerston. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Stratford held a reception at their residence, to which a number of old residents in the district and the relatives of the bridegroom wer» present. The happy couple; left by the mid-day train for Wanganui, en route for Auckland and Rotorua.. In the evening the bride's parents entertained a' large number of friends at a social and dance in the hall, and a most enjoyable time was spent. The wedding of Miss Leali S'mmong to Mr. C. Allan, second son of Mr. W, Allan, late of Kent road, took place at' the residence of the bride's mother, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Osborne. The bride looked lovely in r beautiful white dress, which came from! England, and the orthodox bridal veß and orange blossoms. A very large number of tha bride and bridegroom's relatives and friends were in attendance, and the happy couple were the recipients of many handsome and costly presents. Mr. and Mrs. Allen left early in the afternoon for their new home in the Kent Road, where a hearty welcome from the settlers of that locality awaited them. In the evening Mrs. Sitnon most hospitably entertaihed a number of friends at her commodious residence on the Taoriki Road, and a most pleasant evening was enjoyed by all, dancing being kept up till dawn.
