ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A LAD KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Friday. A 'lad named Norman Millar, while assisting two workmen to start a gas engiine at the yard of Messrs Parkinson and Co., monumental masons, slipped between tho fly-wiheel and the body of the engine. He sustained a blow on the head, which resulted in his death at the hospital. Deceased was eighteen years of age. His parents reside at Devonport. A CHILD DROWNED. Ash-burton, Friday. A sad' fatality occurred about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, when the two-year-old daiu;«'hiter of Mr. Arthur' Mayor strayed into the mill creek not far from her home on the outskirts of the town. 'The child was drowned. t ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. A young man nam-i'd Beck Simpson (states the Star's Eltham correspondent) attempted to commit suicide at the Central Hotel on Thursday. Simpson drove to Elttam from Hawera and put his horse and gig in one of the livery staibles, and went to a chemist's shop and purchased 1 a bottle of ch'lorodine. He then went over to the Central iiotel and asked .to be allowed to lie dlown in a bedroom. He was directed to a room, am! was discovered a few minutes afterwards in a very bad state. Drs. Harrison and Hall were promptly summoned, and managed. to pull Simpson out of danger.
