London, September 29. It is officially announced that Sir Alexander Banoerman has been appointed commander of the air corps to be composed of expert military and civilian aeronauts. There will be two departments, namely, dirigibles and aeroplanes. AN AMERICAN'S FEAT. New York, September 29. Walter Brookings, an aviator, failed in an attempted continuous flight of 186 miles from Chicago to Springfield. He broke Hamilton's record of 88 miles without a stop. Received September 30, 11.5 p.m. Beatiqg a special train, Brookings reached Springfield, making but two ataps. He wins 10,000 dollars for the longest continuous flight in tibe United States.
