A deputation irom tihe Society of Friends .waited on Mr. iFisher (Premier) arad •objected to military service. They said the exemption clause failedi ito meet their .case. Mr, Fisher said the Government had gone a long way iomeet their objections. Only two courses were open. One was to leawe Australia at "the mercy of any ememy, and the other to properly defend it. The voluntary system had failed, and the Government were taking steps to see lihat the -people properly defended their homes. Mr. Pearce said 'he. did not think it possible to enlarge fee conscience clause.
