LAST YEAR'S WORKING. By Cable.—Presfl Association.—Copyright. Melbourne, September 29. ' For the year ended March 31, the proEts on working the Pacific cable were £17,956. On acoount of the payment of £77,544, there was a deficit of £45,588, of which Australia's share was £19.863, Britain and Canada each £16,506, and New Zealand £6714. The president's report makes special reference to the agreement with the Canadian Pacific Railway for five years to lease a land line across Canada which it is claimed will obviate the risk of delay from congestion, and l diminish greatly the risk of error.
