SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM. By Cable.—Prosa Association.—Copyright Capetown, September 22. It is definitely announced that S. J. Snooke and G. C. White will not go to Australia. " UNITED SERVICE CLUB. The annual meeting of the United 'Service Club was held last night, Mr. T. V. Mackay presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet were read. The report stated that the unsuccess of the Club in the Saturday competitions was due to the fact that the two teams entered were weakened by the transfer of members to other towns. 'The A team secured fourth place, and the B team fiffcli, out of seven enI tries. The committee suggests that only lone team be entered this year, owing to the reason stated and the fact that •the legal and insurances- offices now observe the Saturday half-holiday. There is no credit balance, because of the dirain on the resources in relation to the Recreation Sports Ground. The material in hand is assessed at £lO. Arrangements for playing grounds are necessary. Mr. R. Wood is complimented for his fine bowling. He won Mr. Deare's presentation match bail. The club captain, Mr. Mackay, is thanked for his energy and constancy, his general efforts 'having m«h contributed to what success has been attained. The - election of officers resulted as Patron, Mr. G. Tisch (re-elected); President, Mr. F. Simpson (re-elected); vice-president, Drs.'Wylie and Fookes, Messrs. G. T. Murray, W. 0. Skinner, Gordon, Glasgow, N. K. MacDiaimid; captain/Mr. G. E. Dinniss; secretary, Mr. W. J. Wiggs; auditor, Mr. Bollinger; delegate to Association. Mr. N. McIsaac; committee, club captain, treasurer and president, and Messrs. Sullivan, MctCord and Mclsaao. It was decided to enter one team only in the Saturday competition, and that the season be opened by practice on the Recreation Sports Ground on Saturday, October 1. Mr. Mackay presented a bat to the club. On behalf of the Club, Mr. Wiggs presented Mr. Mackay with a handsome pipe. Mr. Mackay suitably acknowledged the gift. The balance-sheet disclosed a balance of £1 18s lOd. • A London cablegram states that Lord Hawke has retired from first-class cricket.
