SUPREME COURT.

WANGANUI SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wangahui, Thursday. The Supreme Court was engaged hearing the claim of £21,046 compensation made by the Bank of Australasia against the Minister of Public Works in connection with the State acquiring the Bank of Australasia site in Ridgway Streetr-a quarter of an acre—for post office purposes. Mr. Hislop (Wellington) with Mr. Treadwell (Wanganui) were for claimants, and Mr. Marshall (Wangonui) with Mr. Ostler (Wellington) for respondents. Evidence was given that the cost of the new site and premises for the bank in the Avenue was more than the Ridgway Street section, £13,264. The site was much smaller and it was contended that it was not nearly so suitable for the business of the bank as the old site.

LADY LAWYER ADMITTED. Gisborne, Thursday. At the Supreme Court this morning Miss Annie Lee Rees was admitted to ithe bar. A large number of ladies and business men were in attendance. Mr. Justice Chapman congratulated Miss Rees, and wished her a successful career. He remarked on the advance made since the days of his boyhood, when angry comments were made upon the aspirations of women to obtain university degrees. »
